Transcend has launched a range of MLC-based, UHS-I Speed Class 3 compliant microSD memory cards for 4K action cameras. Available in capacities up to 64GB, these cards boast transfer speeds of up to 95MB/s in devices supporting the UHS-I specification. The cards are not only temperature proof, enduring extreme temperatures from -25°C to 85°C, but also waterproof, static proof, x-ray proof and shockproof. They all come with Transcend's exclusive RecoveRx software, which features a user-friendly interface that allows users to search deep within a storage device for traces of erased files that can be rescued. Iridient Digital has released Iridient Developer 3.0.1. This version adds support for the Canon 5DS and 5DS R, the Nikon D7200, the Olympus OM-D E-M5 II and SH-2, the Panasonic TZ71 and Samsung NX500. Additionally, it includes improvements to the new v3 noise reduction methods for Luminance and Luminance Grain Smoothness, particularly for images with high levels of speckle type noise in the deep shadows. The v3 Colour noise reduction methods are now both applicable to monochrome conversions and are now applied prior to monochrome conversion. New presets for Fujifilm X-Trans cameras with APS-C based sensors are also available. This update is free for everyone who purchased a new or upgraded license after 14 April 2013.

The Work, Rest and Play: British Photography from the 1960s to Today exhibition presents a survey of over fifty years of British documentary, fashion and fine art photography. The Open and Youth winners along with the inaugural Mobile Phone winner of the Sony World Photography Awards have been announced. The Open Competition winners include Armin Appel, Hector Muñoz Huerta, Antony Crossfield, Nick Ng, Antoine Weis, Norman Quinn, Saleh Rozati, Wilson Lee, Jaime Massieu, and Yasen Georgiev. For photographers aged 19 and under and judged on a single shot, the three Youth category winners are Beatriz Mota da Rocha, Yong Lin Tan and Stephanie Anjo. The Open and Youth category winners will now compete for the overall Open Photographer of the Year and Youth Photographer of the Year titles, which will be revealed at the Sony World photography Awards gala ceremony on 23rd April in London. PicsArt has released an update to the free PicsArt Photo Studio app. The new version gives users the ability to work with significantly higher resolution images, share .GIF files, and save drafts of edited images on PicsArt.com. "Creative inspiration can come from anywhere, that's why PicsArt focuses on giving creatives the tools they need wherever they find inspiration," says Hovhannes Avoyan, founder of PicsArt. One of the first commercially viable 35mm colour motion picture cameras (pictured) will be auctioned by Special Auction Services in Newbury on 2nd July. Invented by George Albert Smith of Brighton, England in 1906, Kinemacolor cameras were used in the UK from 1908 to 1914. Hugo Marsh, Director of Special Auction Services says: “This camera is a really rare find – the cameras and film were extremely expensive when new so very few were made and each of the handful of survivors is significantly different - making them all the more sought after now.” Also included in the two day auction will be a single owner collection of 500 cameras that are expected to fetch in excess of £120,000. One of the earliest examples included in the collection is a 1860s wet plate camera that carries an estimate of £600-800. Day two of the sale comprises a collection of in excess of 200 Leica cameras, including a Reporter 250 (£2,000-3,000), the Leica IV Compur (rim set) estimated at £1,000-1,500 and more than 30 of the legendary M Series Rangefinder cameras with estimates from £200-800 each.

The Lomographic Society has announced its third Film Photography Day. Starting at 11am on April 11th, the twelve-hour event offers an in-store raffle, a Konstruktor building competition and various photography workshops & challenges. The Lomographic online community will also be rewarded for snapping away on Film Photography Day as the Society is organising an online contest, with the main prizes being 100 rolls of film and a Petzval lens.
