Minox DC 6311Digit Life have taken a look at the 6 megapixel Minox DC 6311 digital camera.

“Initially all digital cameras were individual and differed much from each other. Now we are entering the epoch when cameras as well as computers differ only by titles on their boxes. They are absolutely the same in appearance and in contents. A new model differs from a previous one in insignificant design modifications and some changes in the stuffing, which have little effect on the final result, as in case of office computers used for entering texts. Admit it, if you type texts on a computer with a 200 MHz processor or 2 GHz processor, the difference is hardly noticeable. And if these processors are installed into identical cases, perhaps you will feel no difference at all.”

Olympus C-470 ZOOMDCResource have just published a review of the Olympus C-470 ZOOM (also known as the D-590), a digicam with four megapixels, 3x optical zoom and a 1.8” anti-glare LCD screen.

“The Olympus D-590 Zoom is a fairly unremarkable point-and-shoot digital camera best suited for outdoor vacation pictures. I say this because low light focusing and LCD visibility weren’t great, redeye levels were above average, and the lens is on the slow side (in terms of aperture, or how much light is let in). Photo quality is good for the most part, though there are some issues with “fuzzy” details and soft edges at times. Performance is comparable to other cameras in this class. The D-590Z is easy-to-use, with absolutely zero manual controls. There are some useful scene modes, though an action mode would’ve bee nice. The bundled Olympus Master software is quite good, especially compared to what the some of the competition throws in the box.”

Konica Minolta DiMAGE E40DigiCamReview have published a preview of the Konica Minolta DiMAGE E40 digital camera.

“The Konica Minolta Dimage E40 is also known as the BenQ DC E43, Minox DC4211, Premier DC4331, and so on… there appear to be 2 or 3 flavours of this digital camera, a 4mp digital camera with a 2” TFT screen, and 5mp and possibly 6mp versions with a 2.5” TFT screen - although the 5mp/6mp versions do not have an optical viewfinder. 5mp versions include the BenQ DC E53, the Rollei Prego dp5200, etc. It is believed that Premier manufacture these ‘OEM’ cameras for other companies to re-badge/bundle etc.”

The New York Times has published an interesting article which compares the recent upturn of Kodak and its digital camera/printer products with the company’s old Brownie camera:

“The reason people buy a Canon is not fundamentally ease of use, and the reason they buy Sony is not ease of use,” Mr. Schaeffer said. It was a position that resonated with the history of Kodak, which popularized the Instamatic camera, and long before that, the Brownie, which had the slogan “You push the button and we do the rest…

Kodak sold a million printer docks in the first year. Printers have the potential to be far more profitable than cameras, because customers are locked into years of buying ink and paper. Even more important, the printer dock helped Kodak’s cameras stand out in crowded electronics stores, as Kodak convinced many retailers to put its printers right in the aisle that sold cameras, not in the printer section.”

Konica Minolta DiMAGE A200Imaging Resource have reviewed the 8 megapixel Konica Minolta DiMAGE A200 digital camera, which incorporates anti-shake technology and a swivelling LCD monitor.

“The Konica Minolta DiMAGE A2 was easily a Dave’s Pick, capitalizing on fast shutter-lag, excellent exposure and creative control options, and an excellent image stabilization system. Though the Konica Minolta A200 is a slightly pared-down version of the A2, I see many of the same excellent features that I praised on the A2, such as fine-tuned creative adjustments for contrast, saturation, and hue; a full range of exposure control modes for any experience level; a high-resolution 8.0-megapixel CCD; and a sharp 7x optical zoom lens. The result is a camera with a really compelling set of features and capabilities…”

Fujifilm FinePix A340 ZoomImaging Resource have reviewed the Fujifilm FinePix A340 Zoom, a digital camera that offers 4 million effective pixel resolution, 3x optical zoom and a sturdy but stylish body.

“Known for great color and performance, Fuji has also carved out a niche for itself by consistently providing good-quality consumer digicams at rock-bottom prices. The latest in their line of bargain-priced cameras is the Fuji FinePix A340, a 4-megapixel digital camera. The Fuji A340 carries on the value-leading tradition of Fuji digital cameras by offering a 4.0-megapixel CCD and 3x optical zoom lens at a low price, and including a longer maximum exposure time of two seconds and four preset scene modes. As you’d expect, the Fuji FinePix A340 trades off a few features and capabilities to achieve its remarkably low cost, but the camera still takes good-looking pictures in daylight conditions, and is simple enough for even rank beginners to get started with.”

Casio EXILIM Card EX-Z50PCMagazine have just reviewed the new slimline 5 megapixel Casio EXILIM Card EX-Z55 digital camera.

“The Z55 is a very good camera, and it scores better than any ultra-compact we’ve seen, in terms of numbers. The images themselves are another story; while they’re good (and by far the best ultracompact images we’ve seen from Casio) they can’t quite compare to those of the Canon Powershot SD300.”

Canon PowerShot SD20 Digital ELPHPCMagazine have reviewed the 5 megapixel Canon PowerShot SD20 Digital ELPH.

“The Canon PowerShot SD20 Digital Elph is a sleek, attractive, and durable 5MP ultracompact that takes very good daylight pictures. Flash shots aren’t as impressive, though, and there’s no optical zoom. Still, this smaller-than-pocket-size beauty takes a lovely, high-resolution picture and offers lots of extra features for its size; it’s a fine “companion” camera.”

Canon PowerShot SD300 Digital ELPHPCMagazine have just reviewed the 4 megapixel Canon PowerShot SD300 Digital ELPH (also known as the IXUS 40).

“The Canon PowerShot SD300 Digital Elph is only a 4MP camera with a 2 inch LCD in an ultracompact space increasingly dominated by 5MP contenders with 2.5 inch LCDs—but that’s okay, because this tough, tiny camera punches well above its weight. Superb picture quality more than make up for its sluggish flash recycle times, making this our new Editors’ Choice ultracompact camera.”

Olympus Mju - mini DIGITALPCMagazine have just posted their review of the diminutive and stylish 4 megapixel Olympus Mju Mini digicam (called the Stylus Verve in the USA).

“The Olympus Stylus Verve is certainly one of the cooler-looking ultracompact digital cameras on the market today. And it’s full of nice design touches, like a weather-resistant body, and a built-in lens cover that can’t accidentally be pushed open. But unfortunately, the fact that it’s available in six colors and will impress your style-conscious friends doesn’t make up for its muddy, grainy pictures.”

Canon PowerShot SD110 Digital ELPHDigitalCameraInfo have just reviewed the PowerShot SD110 Digital ELPH (also known as the Digital IXUS IIs), which packs 3.2 megapixels into the smallest digital ELPH camera ever made with an optical zoom. Estimated street price is $299.

“Like all digital cameras, the Canon PowerShot SD110 has its pros and cons. It is very compact and easy to fit in a pocket. It’s durable with its attractive stainless steel frame, so it can survive a few drops and bumps. The layout is simple to use, and the menus follow suit. The camera even sports a Print/Share button to ease the stress of transferring photos directly to a printer. This Digital ELPH has 3.3 megapixels on its 1/2.7-inch CCD. The SD110 retails for $299, but can be found online for $200. The lens is from Canon, which is known for its optics. However, this camera only has 2x optical zoom – a definite letdown.”

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z3Pocket-Lint have just reviewed the new 4 megapixel Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z3.

“In terms of image quality, the Z3 produces excellent shots.
