Pentax Optio A10DigitalCameraInfo have published an interesting comparison of 5 digital cameras with image stablisation systems.

“We photographed a scene in low light to see how the cameras handled relatively long exposures. Because the cameras do not have straightforward manual controls, we ended up with a range of exposure times, from 1/4 of a second to a full second. Given that range, these results are not directly comparable. Still, they show that the cameras can yield usable images at very low speeds. Again, our sample images are shown at 100 percent: each pixel on the computer display corresponds to a single pixel in the image file.”

Canon SD900DIWA member LetsGoDigital have published their review of the new 10 megapixel Canon Digital IXUS 900 Ti (also known as the Powershot SD900).

“The image quality of the Canon IXUS 900 Ti is excellent. The white balance performs very well, and will only require a little adjustment in the form of a manual setting when working with a surplus of artificial light, so that the colour cast can be kept to a minimum. The fast DIGIC III processor is a powerful part of the camera, and ensures that the increased resolution will not cause any delays, an impressive achievement! The 10 Megapixel images are processed rapidly, provided you are working with a fast SD card.”

Olympus SP-510 UZMegapixel.net have reviewed the 7 megapixel, 10x optical zoom Olympus SP-510 UZ.

“In conclusion, the SP-510 UZ brings ergonomic improvements over the SP-500 through the addition of external controls that make it simpler to change settings, and which avoid having to navigate through the menu. It also offers an increase in resolution, adding an extra million pixels, but that comes at a cost, as the SP-510 UZ is noticeably more prone to noise than its predecessor was.”

Canon PowerShot A640DCResource have a dual review of the new Canon A640 and Canon A630, which have 10 and 8 megapixels respectively.

“Photo quality similar on both cameras—very good. The A630 and A640 took well-exposed photos with accurate colors, pleasing sharpness, and minimal purple fringing. Noise levels were low through ISO 200, and at ISO 400 something surprising happened: the 10 Megapixel A640 performed better than the 8 Megapixel A630. You should have no problem making midsize prints at that setting—and maybe larger. ISO 800 is best saved for situations where you have no other options. The one photo quality downside is a common one for the A-series cameras, and it’s redeye.”

Samsung NV10DCResource have just reviewed the new 10 megapixel Samsung NV10 digital camera.

“The Samsung NV10 is a compact camera that has some hits and some misses. On the positive side, it’s a very well built and stylish compact camera, with a good feature set. However, its photo quality and battery life are disappointing, two things which are more important than how cool a camera looks in your hand. The NV10’s most notable feature also gets a 50/50 rating from me, and that’s its new user interface. While it is certainly clever and time-saving, it was also very frustrating at times, making me wish that it had a regular four-way controller like every other camera.”

Canon PowerShot G7CNET have a short review of the new Canon G7, which features a 10 megapixel, 1/1.8 inch sensor, DIGIC III image processor, Face Detection, 35-210mm lens and optical image stabilization system.

“Though the reasons for buying the PowerShot G7 have dwindled, they haven’t disappeared entirely. It’s an optimal choice as a second camera, when you can’t or won’t schlep a dSLR with you, if you’re not quite ready to take the leap from a point-and-shoot to a full-fledged interchangeable lens system, or if you need the flexibility of a movie-capture mode.”

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ50CNET have published their review of the recently announced 10 megapixel Panasonic DMC-FZ50 camera.

“Panasonic’s DMC-FZ50 is one large camera, but if you can get past that, you can enjoy some of its nicer features. For example, it includes a rotating, flip-out LCD screen to make extreme high- and low-angle shooting easier, as well as a hotshoe so you can use Panasonic’s DMW-FL28 accessory flash should the camera’s built-in, pop-up flash not be powerful or versatile enough for you. Unfortunately, the LCD screen is only two inches diagonal, but flip-out LCDs tend to be smaller, so it’s on a par with the competition.”

Casio EX-Z1000Imaging Resource have reviewed the Casio EX-Z1000 compact digicam, which offers 10 megapixels, 2.8 inch LCD screen, IS0 3200 and an interesting new Zoom Continuous Shutter mode.

“It was easy to make friends with the Casio EX-Z1000. Auto mode with its 16:9 aspect ratio made composing shots fun. The quick startup and shutdown made it convenient to use, never worrying about missing a shot because it would take too long to turn on the camera. The Casio EX-Z1000’s 3x zoom was a disappointment, if only because we’ve been playing with longer zooms lately. But the digital zoom does compensate for that, relying on the 10 megapixel sensor to deliver enough resolution without degrading image quality.”

Olympus FE-200CNET have the first review of the wide-angle, 5x zoom Olympus FE-200 digital camera, a 6 megapixel model with a 28-140mm lens.

“While Olympus positions the FE-200 as the flagship of its FE-series, it performs dismally; worse, even, than the disappointing FE-170. We had to wait 4 seconds between turning the camera on and taking our first shot; then, the camera paused an excruciating 7.3 seconds between subsequent shots, regardless of whether the flash was turned on or off. Shutter lag was a just-tolerable 1 second in bright light, increasing to 1.3 seconds in dim light. While we can manage with a sluggish shutter, the time lag in between shots renders the camera almost useless.”

Olympus FE-190CNET have the first online review of the slim 6 megapixel Olympus FE-190 camera.

“The FE-190 automatically sets its sensitivity from ISO 64 to ISO 1,000. Unfortunately, you can’t change ISO manually, and since the ISO isn’t recorded in the EXIF data, there’s no way of knowing what ISO setting the camera is using. It features a digital image stabilization mode to help reduce blur, but it still isn’t very good for low-light shooting, especially if you can’t use the flash. Unfortunately, tripod use is extremely awkward, with the camera’s plastic tripod mount on the very far left edge of the body’s bottom.”

Canon PowerShot A630PCMagazine have just reviewed the new Canon PowerShot A630 digital camera.

“n my daylight test shots, I noticed some noise, and more was evident in my flash image. Both shots had excellent color, were quite sharp, and displayed very little fringing. I saw a bit more of this fringing in my real-world shot of tree branches against the bright sky, but it wasn’t terrible. In my flash test shot, the coverage was pretty good and evenly illuminated. There was good detail in the highlights, but it was just a tad underexposed. Because of the nicely designed physical controls, however, you can adjust the level of the flash quickly and easily.”

Nikon Coolpix S10CNET have reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix S10, which has 6 megapixels, Vibration Reduction and a 10x, 38-380mm swivel lens.

“Images from the Nikon Coolpix S10 were very nice with lots of fine detail at its lower ISOs, well-saturated colors, and very little in the way of JPEG artifacts or colored fringing. The camera’s automatic white balance served up nearly neutral colors with our lab’s tungsten lights; there was an extremely mild warm cast, though some users may even like the effect. The tungsten white-balance setting yielded a slightly greenish cast with our tungsten lights, while the Preset (a.k.a. manual) white balance provided the most neutral results.”

Nikon Coolpix S9CNET have reviewed the Nikon Coolpix S9, which offers 6 megapixels, 2.5 inch LCD screen and a 3x zoom lens.

“Though Nikon’s noise-reduction algorithms help minimize noise in prints, they also rob much of an image’s finer detail. ISO 400 showed plenty of noise, though again, not-so-detailed prints should be OK at smaller sizes. In addition to sacrificing finer details at this highest setting, darker portions of our images, such as the face of a plush ape in our test scene, plunged even deeper into darkness, obscuring detail in shadows as well as smoothing the noise reduction.”

Samsung NV10DPReview have just reviewed the new 10 megapixel Samsung NV10 digital camera.

“Image quality (contrast and saturation issues aside) is pretty much on a par with most 7-10MP competitors (there’s little if any advantage to be gained from the extra pixels) - and at ISO 100 the soft touch approach to noise reduction actually produces better than average low contrast detail. At ISO 400 and over noise is a real problem, but for small prints high ISO results are just about usable if the light is so low you’ve got no other choice. It’s not the best quality in the world, but it’s by no means the worst and for the price it’s surprisingly good.”

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ50CameraLabs have published their review of the recently announced 10 megapixel Panasonic DMC-FZ50 camera.

“In its defence though, the FZ50 still has a fantastic lens and excellent creative control, but apart from the new Function button, the best aspects are essentially the same as its predecessor. Sure, the FZ50 may resolve slightly more detail at its lowest ISO, but we’d happily swap this for better performance at higher sensitivities. Certainly if you demand better quality at high ISOs, you’ll be better off with a budget DSLR.”
