DPreview have the first review of the new Panasonic DMC-FZ8 camera.

“I’m not going to dwell on the noise / noise reduction issue here; we’ve done it to death and there are plenty of examples in the review and the gallery to allow you to make your own mind up. At ISO 100 and 200, if you turn the noise reduction to low (or shoot raw) the FZ8 is a little noisy, but the overall quality of output is excellent, and it produces superb prints. At higher ISO settings you’re never going to get amazing results from a 1/2.5” 7MP sensor.”

CNET have reviewed the Sony W35 which offers 7.2 megapixels, Real Imaging Processor, ISO 1000 and a 3x optical zoom lens.

“The camera performed quite well in our tests, considering its low price tag. After a mere 1.4-second startup time, we were rattling off shots every 1.4 seconds. With the onboard flash enabled, that time slightly increased to 1.7 seconds. Shutter lag was a peppy 0.4 seconds in bright light, though the lag increased to 1.7 seconds in dim environments. Burst mode was acceptable, snapping four full-resolution shots in just under three seconds for a rate of 1.34 frames per second.”

DigitalCameraInfo have reviewed the 7 megapixel, dual-lens Kodak Easyshare V705 camera.

“Kodak priced the EasyShare V705 at $349 and that isn’t outrageously overpriced but certainly rides the line. The camera’s specs certainly justify the price. The dual lens system lets users enjoy a wide 23mm focal length and a total zoom of 5x, something that just can’t be found on many ultra-compact digital cameras. The dual lens system requires two image sensors, each with 7.1 megapixels. A 2.5-inch high-resolution LCD screen and 32 MB of internal memory round out the specs. $349 sounds fair enough until you consider the awful color reproduction, inability to snap even halfway decent pictures in low light, the furry look of most pictures, and overall poor image quality.”

PMA 2007: The Panasonic DMC-FZ8 features a 12x optical zoom Leica lens equivalent to 36mm to 432mm, with an Optical Image Stabiliser, 7.2 megapixel CCD, RAW mode and joystick control for manual adjustment of focusing and exposure setting. Replacing the DMC-FZ7 model, the DSLR-like Panasonic DMC-FZ8 will be available from March 2007, price to be confirmed.

PMA 2007: The Panasonic DMC-TZ3 and Panasonic DMC-TZ2 both fit a 10x optical zoom in a compact, stylish body, equivalent to 28-280mm focal range. The TZ3 offers 7.2 megapixels and 3 inch LCD screen, whilst the TZ2 has a 6 megapixel sensor and 2.5 inch LCD. The Panasonic DMC-TZ3 and Panasonic DMC-TZ2 replace the original TZ1 model and will be available in May 2007, pricing to be confirmed.

PMA 2007: The Panasonic DMC-FX30 is the world’s slimmest digital camera with a 28mm wide-angle lens. There’s also an Optical Image Stabiliser, ISO 1250 and Intelligent ISO Control for shake-free photos. The Panasonic DMC-FX30 will be available in March, price to be announced.

DIWA member Digit.no have just reviewed the new Canon PowerShot A630 digital camera.

“Canon PowerShot A630 is one of the best equipped compact cameras in its class, featuring a bright 4x zoom lens (35-140 mm f/2.8-4.1), a flexible 2.5” LCD screen, 8 MP resolution and a wide variety of settings options, such as fully automatic, semi automatic and manual exposure and adjustable paramaters for image processing. It also has an intelligent 9-points AF as well as manual focus with enlarged centre. The A630 delivers high image quality, but I miss RAW format since JPEG compression is quite high, even for Superfine quality. I also miss bracketing options, although its evaluating metering and white balance is very precise under all most lighting conditions. The A630 has a rather bulky design, but that’s more an advantage than a drawback in my opinion as it makes the camera exceptionally user friendly.”

Megapixel.net have reviewed the new Fujifilm S9600 (called the FinePix S9100 in the USA), which is a 9 megapixel camera with a 10x zoom lens.

“In our opinion, presenting the FinePix S9100/S9600 as a serious revision of the S9000/S9500 is a bit of a stretch. And, while the S9000/S9500 was indeed a ground breaking camera when it was introduced in mid 2005, this is now 2007 and a lot of developments have taken place since. So, although based on an SLR design that makes it comfortable to use, the S9100/S9600 does not have either the flexibility, nor the image quality that dSLR cameras offer; and with a street price that is close to some entry-level dSLR cameras, the S9100/S9600 may be faced with some tough competition.”
