Canon PowerShot A460Laptop Magazine have put the latest crop of digicams priced under $150 to the test, including the Canon PowerShot A460 (pictured).

“A few years ago, we wouldn’t have been able to round up 3.2-megapixel cameras under $250. Today, it’s possible to pick up a 5-, 6-, or 7-MP shooter for less than $150. Don’t think that these point-and-shoots are clunky plastic boxes, either. They each use two AA batteries and look similar, but they also have LCDs larger than two inches (with some as big as 2.5 inches), at least a 3X optical zoom, the ability to capture video, and a handful of scene modes.”

Kodak V1003PCMag have reviewed the Kodak V1003 camera, which offers 10 megapixels, 2.5 inch LCD screen, 3x optical zoom lens and up to ISO 1600.

“When I was at PMA this year, I couldn’t help noticing that Kodak has decided to focus on a particular segment of the marketplace: women as camera buyers. It’s a great strategy for Kodak, or any camera manufacturer for that matter. But by promoting accessories such as camera cases, skins, wrist and neck straps, and even photo frames over image quality, the company is putting the cart before the horse. Pocket-size and available in a multitude of colors, Kodak’s new EasyShare V1003 is a perfect example of this questionable tactic.”

Pentax Optio A30Megapixel.net have reviewed the Pentax Optio A30, a 10 megapixel compact digital camera with a 1/1.8 inch CCD, anti-shake technology, 3x optical zoom and 2.5 inch LCD monitor.

“With its classical looks, the Pentax Optio A30, is an elegant and attractive camera. Used outdoors and with bright light, it easily yields images of excellent quality and colour that can be printed out to a large size. Simple to use and equipped with a resolution that is often considerably more than is needed, the Pentax Optio A30 has the advantage of offering a good image stabilization system and a short reaction time to its controls, both crucial features when capturing subjects such as children, or even pets.”

Canon PowerShot G7DigitalCameraInfo have reviewed the new Canon G7, which features a 10 megapixel, 1/1.8 inch sensor, DIGIC III image processor, Face Detection, 35-210mm lens and optical image stabilization system.

“The Canon PowerShot G7 is designed for consumers who want the functionality of a DSLR without the bulk. The G7 has the flexibility to accept conversion lenses and a flash unit on its hot shoe, but doesn’t require those to take great pictures. In the end, the Canon G7 certainly has its flaws but still snaps crisp pictures with accurate colors.”

Nikon Coolpix P5000DPReview have reviewed the Nikon Coolpix P5000 camera, which offers 10 megapixels, 3.5x zoom lens (36-126mm), Vibration Reduction to combat camera shake, ISO 3200 capability and a 2.5 inch LCD screen.

”...the P5000, in common with most recent Coolpix models, has a serious issue with focus speed that makes it totally unsuitable for use in situations where quick reactions are essential. If you’re taking landscapes you can live with waiting a second (or two if you’re unlucky) for the camera to focus and take the picture, but snapping restless children (or in fact anything moving) is frustrating and ultimately a hit ‘n’ miss affair.”

Fujifilm FinePix F40fdDCResource have reviewed the new Fujifilm FinePix F40fd camera, which offers 8.3 megapixels, 3x zoom lens, 300 shot battery life, Face Detection technology and support for both xD-Picture Card and SD card formats.

“If you’re looking for a compact camera that’s a great low light shooter, then you should definitely put the Fuji FinePix F40fd on your list. The F40fd is a stylish camera that takes produces high quality photos, even at high ISO settings. There’s a fair amount of noise reduction in the photos (even at lower ISO settings), but for the typical F40 buyer I don’t think this will be an issue. Other nice features on the camera include its beautiful 2.5” LCD display, minimal redeye, and a memory card slot that takes both xD and SD formats. This is a point-and-shoot camera that I can definitely recommend.”

Samsung L700CNET have reviewed the Samsung L700 camera, which offers several advanced features, including a suite of advanced video and editing functions, in a compact, stylish metal body. It has 7 megapixels, 3x optical zoom and a bright 2.5” LCD display.

“Compared to a lot of other budget cameras, Samsung’s L700 offers plenty of options when shooting, including sensitivity, white balance, and exposure compensation. The camera’s sensitivity peaks at ISO 1,600, allowing nice flexibility in low-light and high-speed shooting. White-balance settings include standard (aka auto), cloudy, sunny, tungsten, fluorescent, and manual. We rarely see manual white balance modes in budget cameras, so this came as a pleasant surprise.”

Pentax w30TrustedReviews have reviewed the Pentax W30, a waterproof digital camera offering 7.1 megapixels, 3x optical zoom and two new Shake Reduction modes.

“Picture quality is about average for a 7MP compact. Exposure is generally good, although in standard multi-zone metering mode it does tend to under-expose in strong backlighting. Colour rendition is very good, and the lens performs well despite its unusual configuration. It has noticeable barrel distortion at the wide-angle end of the zoom range, but overall detail and corner sharpness are a match for any other 7MP pocket compact. As I’ve already mentioned, the W30 does suffer from quite bad image noise at high ISO settings, but as long as you keep it under 800 it isn’t a major problem.”

HP R837CNET have reviewed the new HP Photosmart R837 digital camera, which can remove blemishes from faces, such as a spot, mole or scar, and includes pet-eye fix, which removes the glowing effect caused by pets’ eyes. The R837 offers a 7.2 megapixel sensor, 3x optical zoom lens and large 3 inch LCD screen.

“HP has learned to do some amazing things with the processing inside its cameras, but sometimes all this processing doesn’t help. We feel that the R837 works a bit too hard to make photos look bright and high-contrast, sometimes at the expense of dynamic range, giving its photos an overly two-dimensional, somewhat unreal look. The upside of this is that camera’s automatic white balance does an admirable job of neutralizing the color cast caused by incandescent lights.”

“The P5000’s shooting speed falls at the bottom of its small pack. The 2-second wake-up-to-first-shot time doesn’t hurt, but the 0.9-second shutter lag under optimal conditions coupled with a 3-second shot-to-shot time makes it unsuitable for shooting animals and children, along with many other things that move. At least adding flash doesn’t increase that time at all.”

Sony W90Steves Digicams have reviewed the Sony W90, which has an 8 megapixel sensor, 3x optical zoom lens, metal body, 2.5-inch LCD screen and an optical viewfinder.

“The results of our “8M” megapixel images was very good. When shooting outdoors in the bright sunlight, it captured nice sharp images, with accurate exposure and rich color saturation. I did notice a bit of edge softness of several of our photos, however this is common with consumer models. The W90 is equipped with a very nice Carl Zeiss lens that offers a typical 3x zoom range (35-105mm in 35mm equivalence) for a consumer camera. At full wide angle (35mm) the field of view is sufficient for most of your interior and landscape shots, however, you’ll find yourself walking backwards with your feet at times.”

Kodak V803ePhotoZine have reviewed the Kodak EasyShare V803 camera which offers 8 megapixels, a 2.5 inch LCD screen, 3x optical zoom lense and up to ISO 1600.

“Startup time is a sluggardly 5secs or thereabouts and while there is a burst mode, it can manage four shots before the internal buffer fills up and it stops to write things to the memory card. It can shoot them in around 4secs, so that’s one per second or slightly under, but then in a 10sec test, the rest of the time is spent writing to the card. It can take up to 17secs to finish writing those images to the card, from the end of the last capture of the four.”

Casio EX-V7PCMag have reviewed the Casio EX-V7, the world’s slimmest digital camera with a 7X optical zoom lens (equivalent to 38-266mm on a 35mm film camera).

“Casio’s new Exilim EX-V7 is one of the first 7X optical, 7.2-megapixel ultracompacts with image stabilization, to hit the market. The introduction of this advanced and stylish camera proves Casio has plenty of game, especially in the point-and-shoot space, where the company consistently strives to innovate. Even better, the EX-V7 has a nice design, reminiscent of some of Sony’s striking compacts. That said, the Exilim doesn’t quite measure up in a few key areas.”
